Can Pour Shot Glasses
It might come as a surprise to you but all of us in Canada have been getting some extra liquor in each of our drinks. Not much, just about one millilitre extra, which anyone will hardly notice but the quantity is enough to have significant effect on profits of restaurants & bars over a period of time.
What are Can-Pour Shot Glasses?
Almost all of shot glasses used in the country have the capacity of one American ounce which is equivalent to about 30 mL which is different from the Canadian fluid ounce and according to imperial system as well as Liquor Control and Licensing Laws in Canada, it is about 28 mL.
The Measurement
The new Can-Pour shot glass holds 28 mL of drink and looks totally identical to a traditional shot glass with primary difference being in thickness of wall that make the glass hold 28 mL of drink instead of 30 mL & also makes the shot glass stronger. The advantage that any bar owner or restaurant has is that by using Can-Pour they can create same revenue for their company and need to purchase 7% less amount of liquor.
The Savings
As an example to illustrate the gains; bars with $20,000 liquor spend every month can save around $1,400 by using the Can-Pour shot glass. It clearly illustrates that most establishments in the country have been over-pouring drinks to their customers till now.
The bars while selling liquor of 40 ounce have to pay tax for 40 shots of drink sold but actually they are only pouring 38 shots according to the American Fluid Ounce value, so bar owners get taxed for shots that they do not pour.
These Can-Pour shot glasses have passed accuracy tests of Weights and Measurement department & it has been found that these always dispense 28 mL or 1 Canadian Fluid Ounce with errors within the specified Limits for Error provided by the regulatory bodies.
It is worth noting that from the time bars & restaurants have started using Can-Pour shot glasses, notable improvements have been reported in their inventory.
The Can-Pour Manufacturers
Dan Wilson and Kyle Tweter, bar co-owners in Vancouver suddenly became aware of this problem when their bar was audited by tax officials and were asked to pay thousands on the basis of records which showed how much liquor the bar had purchased.
They then searched a lot to know if Canadian ounce shot glasses were available in the market or not but could not find any. They then took the decision to make these shot glasses themselves and thus Can-Pour shot glasses came into existence and are now gaining popularity very rapidly in whole of Canada.
