Purchase Safe Water Bottles
There are different types of water bottles such as single use ones and reusable bottles. It is common practice to reuse water bottles and it helps to reduce waste accumulation & landfills. Water bottles can be washed with soap water or any bleach solution can also be used which helps in making the bottle bacteria free.
We hardly pay attention to water bottles we buy at any gas station or convenience store. But such bottles are not safe for use and can be damaging to our health and of our family members. Such containers most often leak harmful chemicals such as BPA (Bisphenol A) and also serve to work as breeding ground for germs & bacteria.
If such plastic bottles are put to repetitive use then they start to leak chemicals into the stored water. Chemicals such as BPA are known as endocrine interrupters which affect how hormones work in our body and especially BPA is known as one of the factors that increases the risk of cancer.
Studies have shown that high levels of BPA can lead to undesirable prenatal stage reproductive tribulations. Additionally, BPA exposure in neonatal stage can negatively effect ovarian development.
So instead of such plastic water bottles select the ones which are made from more durable plastic, have double walls or are with vacuum insulation. If the bottle has plastic components such as caps or lids then make sure these are BPA free.
Some of the safer alternatives are aluminum water bottles and stainless steel bottles which do not leak chemicals like the plastic ones and are good for your health.
Apart from health factor, an eco friendly water bottle; a stainless steel bottle or the aluminum sports bottle which you take with you while out for a walk or jogging in the morning makes a nice fashion statement and shows others that you are aware of the harm plastic bottles do to you as well as to the environment.
Tips on Washing Water Bottles
If you clean your water bottle properly then most of the bacteria get destroyed. You should also try and wash them as often as possible.
If you are using a dishwasher then use some precautions such as keeping water bottle in top most rack as there are chances that it may melt due to high temperature. In addition to it, as soon as the wash cycle completes you should take it out prior to the start of the dry cycle.
Reusable Water Bottles
The recent trends in eco friendly living have lead to creation of reusable water bottles which can be used multiple times. Main advantage with reusable water bottles is that you can purchase them without worrying about health issues which exist when you buy plastic water bottles or the disposable ones. The disposable water bottles tend to leak out chemicals commonly known as carcinogens which are harmful for our health.
Different types of materials are used for manufacturing these reusable bottles such as polycarbonate, glass, polypropylene, copolyester, polyethelene, aluminum & steel. All of these material, the most usable as well as durable ones are the aluminum water bottles and the stainless steel water bottles.
The water bottles made out of material such as aluminum and stainless steel also have recyclable value where you can sell them when they get damaged. This reduces the recycling burden and also the negative environmental effects disposable bottles have.
