In case you stick to purchasing plastic mug then at least make sure that the mug has a liner made of stainless steel. This way the outside of the mug will not heat up. The other thing you will have to decide is that whether you will purchase a mug which can fit into cup holder of your car or you want something with a non slip wide bottom.
You will have to look into volume size also as these mugs are available in different sizes such as small 8 oz ones if you drink small amounts or large 20 oz ones for people who drink a lot of tea or coffee.
