Features of Wine Glasses
One thing is standard for all categories of wine glasses that its diameter at the top must be decreasing, which enables trapping of aromas of wine in different ways. Wine glass is supposed to be totally transparent as well as smooth. You need to be aware that wine glass must be filled only to one third of its capacity.
However, for vintage wines, we must choose slightly smaller glasses to avoid excessive evaporation of its aroma.

Glass for drinking red wine
It has the shape of tulip, shows a slight elongation and a soft round shape. Its capacity is 200cc and should be filled up to approximately 2/3 of its actual capacity. The temperature you need to maintain for this wine should be something in the range of 18 to 21 degree Celsius.
Glasses for White Wine
These wine glasses have somewhat wider base & need not be too high. Temperature for this wine should be at 6 º C and it should be given in smaller quantity.
Wine Tasting Glasses
It is obvious that this is ideal glass for drinking and to experience all its qualities. It has a capacity of 215cc and has larger mouth where your nose as well as lips can enter simultaneously.
Flute or Champagne Glasses
This glass is excellent for sparkling wine. The shape is such that flute is pretty long as well as narrow and width increases slightly at the lips. This form facilitates the rising bubbles and formation of crown of bubbles.
Other Types of Glasses Used for Drinking Wine
- Bordeaux wine: A large oval on a level high enough and is considered to be the largest type of glass.
- Burgundies wine: A large glass chalice that will leave very large blossom wine, still on one foot but less top end than the Bordeaux. It is a glass "corpulent"
- Loire wines: A glass-like ball of modest size.
- Wines of Alsace: A glass-like ball covered by a thin rod twisted high.
